Laminate is a material constructed by uniting two or more layers of material together. Laminate flooring is a type of flooring which is made from laminate material. It is also the hottest trend in the modern flooring since the early days of linoleum.
Usually laminate flooring is made to looks like natural materials like wood or stone. Usually it’s made just from synthetics materials (melamine resin) or synthetics materials combined with natural ones. Laminate flooring has a dense inner core and a glued-on layer or fused layers of outer material.
Laminate flooring is often known by its brand name, Pergo. Pergo is a Swedish company which created it more than 20 years ago (in 1977). Yet there are plenty of other famous manufacturers: Dupont, Mannington, Armstrong. See a pattern here? Laminate flooring is mainly manufactured by companies that make synthetic floor coverings.
Laminate floors are usually much less expensive than wood or natural stone flooring material. They also are a very good solution for a do-it-yourself install. Laminate flooring possesses a monolithic function once each plank or tile is clicked into one another, without the use of glue, staples, nails, or cementitious compounds. Installed laminate floors typically “float” over the sub-floor on top of a foam/film underlayment, which is meant to provide moisture and sound-reducing properties.
